Universal Principles of Biomedical Ethics

1. Autonomy: self determination and freedom to choose and implement ones decision, free from deceit, duress, constraint, or coercion.

2. Veracity: tell the truth.
Benevolent deception: practitioner intentionally witholds information according to his sound
judgment when such revelation would do harm to the emotionally unstable or
depressed person.

3. Beneficence: promotes doing acts stated in positive form of kindness and mercy that directly benefit the patient. Promotes health of patient, prevent illness.

4. Nonmalfiscence: stated in negative form to remind health practitioners to do no harm.

5. Justice: right to demand to be treated justly, fairly, and equally.
